The purpose of the Ron Alexander Youth Aviation Program (RAYAP) is to provide aviation interested youth guidance, mentorship, and the opportunity to restore and maintain aircraft in exchange for flight time towards a sport pilot or private pilot’s certificate.
Since the founding of the program, the Youth Aviation Program has recorded the following accomplishments:
Under experienced adult guidance, youth between the ages of 14-18 are taught the skills of restoring, repairing, and maintaining aircraft. Youth interested in learning how to pilot an airplane can qualify for one hour of flight instruction for every 10 hours of program participation, and time logged in the youth’s maintenance logbook can be applied toward the minimum hour requirements for an A&P certificate.
This program is very structured, and participating youth must have a strong desire to learn. Regardless of the aviation goal, the Ron Alexander Youth Aviation Program affords participating youth a path to achieving their goal with minimal expense.
